May 2024 we released our second single malt whisky. Torfæus is a lightly peated whisky with subtle notes of apricot and mango, hint of spicy wood, sticky toffee, and a silky honeyed peat finish. Matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Pineau des Charentes casks.

Tormod Torfæus was a royal historian and translator of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway. He was born in Engey (Iceland) in 1636, but settled in Kopervik (Norway) at the age of thirty. His main work was “Historia rerum Norvegicarum” – the history of Norway. He completed this in 1711 after having worked on it for 30 years. The first three volumes of “Tormod Torfæus, Norges Historie” were published on April 8, 2008. The seventh and final volumen in the series was completed and published in 2014.

Torfæus is the second whisky from Hiernagla in a series of five limited releases.
